Warehouse startup incubator wins $544K federal grant

LOVELAND — The Warehouse, a 10-year-old startup incubator and business accelerator, has been awarded a $544,000 grant from the federal Economic Development Administration to expand its manufacturing scaleup support and increase the economic impact of its programs.

Allison Seabeck, the incubator’s executive director, told BizWest on Friday that the grant “will help The Warehouse expand its incubator model and expand access for small and medium-sized manufacturers to access shared equipment and infrastructure resources. It will help them to get access to our onsite shop for machining and prototyping, and will help them utilize underutilized equipment at our partner organizations.”

The Warehouse operates out of 48,000 square feet at the Forge Campus, 815 14th St. SW, Suite C250, in Loveland.

“We also will make a concerted effort to reach out to historically underserved entrepreneurs including women and Latinos,” Seabeck said. “We want to try to increase representation from those communities in manufacturing. The goal of all these elements is to increase economic diversification and our long-term economic health in Colorado.”

According to the EDA, a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the grant is projected to generate 120 jobs and leverage $40 million in private investment.

“The project will help leverage existing private-sector partnerships and support emerging small manufacturing and technology-based businesses in the region,” the EDA said. “The project work includes providing second-stage manufacturing and technology companies with assistance in overcoming barriers to achieving scale, sustainability and long-term economic impact.  Once completed, the project will foster economic resilience and support long-term recovery from natural disasters and wildfires by improving economic diversification, expanding technology-driven economic development and enabling equitable access to essential business resources.”

The EDA grants are awarded through a competitive process based upon the application’s merit and eligibility as well as the availability of funds.
