Masonville store to reopen after auction purchase

MASONVILLE — Bill Carle, whose purchase rescued the iconic Dam Store near the mouth of Big Thompson Canyon eight years ago, has joined partners Robert and Susan Mein to place the winning bid for the 128-year-old Masonville Mercantile and plan to reopen it as a store and community gathering place.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, the sale is expected to close in the next month after the Nov. 16 auction.

Carle’s family, often billed as Colorado’s “first family of tourism,” has been associated with the Summit House atop Pikes Peak, the Crest House atop then-Mount Evans, Echo Lake Lodge and stores at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison.
