Maxar Intelligence gets 5-year, $290M federal contract

WESTMINSTER — Maxar Intelligence, one of the business divisions created with the 2023 split of Maxar Technologies Inc., has been selected by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to provide advanced geospatial insights and automated object detections through the agency’s Luno A, a $290 million, five-year contract with indefinite deliveries and quantities.

Under this contract, Maxar will leverage its computer vision models to deliver automated object detections and analytic insights.

“Our very-high resolution imagery and massive data library give us a unique edge to meet Luno A’s need for fast, accurate insights,” Susanne Hake, Maxar’s general manager for U.S. government projects, said in a prepared statement. “As we continue launching more WorldView Legion satellites, we’ll have significantly more … imaging capacity and increased revisits, providing us with an even deeper pool of exquisite data that can fuel more actionable insights in near real-time.”

The agency selected 10 vendors including Maxar for the five-year contract, reinforcing the key role commercial providers play in making sense of geospatial data at scale. This industry partnership will enhance the agency’s ability to detect and track vehicles, aircraft, vessels and infrastructure, as well as monitor patterns of life, economic indicators and changes to critical facilities and terrain.

Maxar already has begun work with the agency under the Luno A contract, helping analysts and operators better understand changes on Earth and respond to global developments.

Maxar Intelligence was formed after a $6.4 billion acquisition of Maxar by Boston-based private-equity firm Advent International. In addition to Maxar Intelligence, which provides geospatial monitoring services to governments and companies, the combined company includes the aerospace division Maxar Space Infrastructure.
