Melting Pot selling fondue at Safeway stores

The Melting Pot, a restaurant chain with 93 franchised eateries including locations in Louisville and Fort Collins, has begun selling packaged aged cheddar and gouda fondue at 110 Safeway grocery locations in Colorado.

“Melting Pot at Home was launched earlier this year, and while it is available for purchase online, we wanted to give consumers the option to purchase it in-store,” Melting Pot CEO Bob Johnston said in a prepared statement. “It is a privilege to partner with Safeway to share the Melting Pot experience with loyal shoppers. Melting Pot is all about creating shareable moments, and now people will have the opportunity to make deliciously memorable moments from the comfort of their home, one dip at a time.”

The package’s contents can be warmed on a stove top or in a microwave oven or slow cooker; no fondue pot is required. Once warmed, items such as strawberries, fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, pretzels, and marshmallows can be dipped into the blend of melted aged cheddar and Dutch gouda cheeses.

Melting Pot restaurants in the region are located at 334 E. Mountain Ave. in Fort Collins and 732 Main St. in Louisville. The chain, headquartered in Tampa, Florida, opened its first restaurant in Maitland, Florida, in 1975 and featured just three items: Swiss cheese fondue, beef fondue and a chocolate fondue dessert.

The chain has franchised locations in 31 states as well as one restaurant that opened in 2010 in Edmonton, Alberta.
