Cortez may spur development with fee reductions

CORTEZ — Cortez may reduce or waive certain fees — building permits and use taxes, for example — to spur housing development in selected parts of town.

The Cortez Journal reported that the Cortez Planning and Building Department is considering the idea, which is called the 2019 Cortez Home Affordability and Mitigation Program. The program mimics a successful plan used in 2008 during the recession to spur development.

Nothing is set in concrete yet; the building department first will meet with local developers before presenting a plan to the city council.
