Louisville-based Gaiam laying off 34 employees

Gaiam’s selloff of a pair of business units isn’t coming without some fallout for workers at the Louisville-based fitness and lifestyle company.

Gaiam officials recently sent a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter to the state of Colorado disclosing that the firm is laying off 34 employees.

Gaiam (Nasdaq: GAIA) last week announced that it was selling its consumer-products business to New York-based Sequential Brands Group and rebranding as Gaia Inc. That announcement came five days after Gaiam had announced it was selling its majority stake in adventure travel and ecotourism company Natural Habitat Inc.

In the WARN filing received by the state Tuesday, Gaiam executive vice president John Jackson wrote that many of the employees of the consumer-products business unit would receive job offers from new ownership prior to the closing of the acquisition. But he said it’s anticipated that 34 will not receive such offers.
