Longmont startup Slalom Fox releases new cocktails in a can

LONGMONT — Slalom Fox, a beverage startup, has released a line of ready-to-drink canned cocktails.

The alcoholic beverages are made with premium juices, spirits and herbal extracts, according to a news release. The drinks come in a vodka and bourbon cocktail variety, with gin and whiskey offerings to be released in the spring. Slalom Fox has a Vodka Collins, meant to taste like a spiked lemonade with a hint of thyme, and a Bourbon Revival made with bourbon, lemon juice and black currant.

Longmont resident Katie Burns started the company after being unimpressed with the ready-to-drink offerings in liquor stores.

“As someone with a background in natural products, I was shocked that the only ready-to-drink cocktails lacked in both taste and quality ingredients,” Burns said in a prepared statement. “The drinks out there were being called ‘cocktails’ but most were made with little more than flavoring and malt liquor. There were a few options that contained actual booze but we couldn’t find any with real juices.”

Slalom Fox was named after Colorado ski culture and Burns’ favorite animal.

The cocktails are crafted and canned in Longmont and can be found in retailers across the state. They are sold in four-packs and are ready to drink from the can or can be poured over ice. They have alcohol by volume between 7 and 8 percent.
