First Interstate Bank – Corporate Citizen of the Year
2024 Community Builder Awards
With a boost from a $21.5 million dollar donation in 2022, First Interstate Bank’s philanthropic arm, the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation, launched the annual Believe in Local campaign, which awards 40 employee-nominated nonprofits across the Bank’s footprint grants of $25,000. Since the campaign began in 2022, five local nonprofits have received funding: The Family Center – La Familia, Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley, Childsafe Colorado Inc., Flatirons Habitat for Humanity and Thrive Colorado.
“Giving back to the places we call home is central to our values as a community bank,” explained Denver/Boulder market president Mark Mooney said. “These nonprofits’ impact can’t be understated. We are grateful for the time and effort they dedicate to our community.”
Headquartered in Billings, Montana, First Interstate entered the Boulder Valley and Northern Colorado markets in 2022 after a merger with Great Western Bancorp Inc.

Since then, local branches have participated in two volunteer days, during which the bank closes all locations at noon to allow employees to volunteer at their local nonprofits of choice for the remainder of the work day.
“Volunteer day and our Believe in Local grant awards are what community banking is all about — helping the places we call home reach their greatest potential.” Colorado regional president Bryan Guest said.
