Garage Sale Vintage plans Boulder outpost in former Ted’s Montana Grill space
BOULDER — A prime, but vacant, piece of property in the heart of Boulder’s Pearl Street might soon be the home to Garage Sale Vintage, a hip, Denver-born used-clothing and records store concept that includes a bar and restaurant.
The business, which has a flagship store in Denver’s Larimer Square district, plans to set up shop at 1701 Pearl St., formerly home to Ted’s Montana Grill, which closed in 2019.
The total footprint is expected to be 4,831 square feet, with 50 seats in the bar area and another dozen on an outside patio, Boulder planning documents show.

“Whether you are trading memories with friends, mining for vinyl gold, or finding your next Friday night fit, Garage Sale Vintage is the place to treasure hunt and help the planet through sustainable fashion, all with a cocktail in hand,” Garage Sale, which defines vintage as items that are “20 years or older that increase in value,” said of its concept in a memo provided to Boulder planners.
In addition to drinks, Garage Sale will offer chips, salsa, nachos, tacos and pizza flatbreads.
Initially, the business planned to open at 11 a.m. each day, but, based on comments from neighbors on Pearl Street, decided to open an hour earlier “to absorb some of the customers waiting for [nearby brunch restaurant] Snooze,” the memo to planners said.
Garage Sale plans to employ five full-time workers and as many as nine part timers.
The company’s proposal, which will require some renovations at the Pearl Street space it has leased from Unico Properties LLC, is making its way through Boulder’s approval process.
Members of Boulder’s Planning Board declined to call the project up Thursday for further review.
“It’s going to be a really wonderful addition to our community,” Planning Board member Laura Kaplan said.
Garage Sale, which is operated by Denver’s Good Baby Management LLC, is in the process of expanding both into other parts of the Denver metro area such as Lakewood and Edgewater, as well as into the Nashville, Tennessee, market.
