Boulder startup launches $20M round for laser-based acne treatment

BOULDER — Accure Acne Inc. has opened a $20 million round to fund development into using lasers to subdue overactive skin glands that cause severe acne.

In a statement, the Boulder company said the funds would be used to commercialize its product that is currently undergoing clinical trials.

Rather than raise the money privately before disclosing the round to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Accure is advertising the round on M-Vest. That platform is similar to other crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter but is open only to accredited investors.

How dispatchable resources enable the clean energy transition

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

Accure is using a specialty laser to selectively kill sebaceous glands without damaging the other layers of skin or sub-skin material on a person’s body. Those glands secrete oils, and they lead to forms of acne ranging from mild to severe if they overproduce oil or become clogged.

Accure is in the middle of its final trial to test the technology before submitting it to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for permission to sell. The trial was paused last March due to the onset of the pandemic but resumed recruiting patients and performing treatments in January.

The company last raised $2.25 million in 2017, according to previous SEC filings.
