Boulder-based Blackhorn Ventures raising $100M

BOULDER — Blackhorn Ventures Industrial Impact Fund LP, a Boulder-based investment group, has raised $28.26 million out of a $100 million equity offering.

The raise was detailed in a Form D filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, May 2. The funds were raised from nine investors, with $71.74 million remaining to be raised.

Blackhorn Ventures Industrial Impact Fund is an arm of Blackhorn Ventures, a venture-capital firm specializing in early- and growth-stage companies that are reshaping industrial resource efficiency.

Blackhorn in January announced that it had hired Melissa Cheong as managing partner, joining managing partners Trevor Zimmerman and Philip O’Connor. Cheong previously served as chief investment officer at Denver-based Zoma Capital.

At the time of Cheong’s hiring, Blackhorn said that it had made approximately $26 million in investments. The company’s website lists a portfolio of 24 companies in which it has invested.

Blackhorn in April 2018 added former Colorado governor Bill Ritter as a strategy partner, advising the firm on energy investments.

Zimmerman did not return calls for comment.
