Demolition begins for $100M S’park redevelopment in Boulder

BOULDER – Demolition has begun at the former Sutherlands lumberyard site in Boulder, paving the way for the $100 million mixed-use S’park redevelopment.

The work means contractors will be able to begin vertical construction by the end of the year, with completion slated for mid-2018.

The new timeline, noted in a release from S’park developers Thursday, is pushed back by a few months from the one they mentioned in January when Chicago firm Kinship Capital bought a majority stake in the project.

S’park, short for Sutherland Park, is slated to include about 100,000 square feet of office space, 145 luxury apartments, 38 permanently affordable apartments and 40,000 square feet of retail space.

“We could not be more excited to begin preparing the site for vertical construction to begin later this year,” Scott Holton of Boulder-based Element Properties said in the release.

Element has been spearheading development of S’park since 2014 and gained planning board approval last fall before it was announced that Kinship and The John Buck Co., had bought into the project.
