How dispatchable resources enable the clean energy transition
Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).
The roundtable will look at three topics and how they intersect with both Colorado’s efforts to fight climate change and the President’s Climate Change Action Plan: the Colorado Climate Change Vulnerability Study.
The study was prepared earlier this year by Western Water Assessment, regional climate resources with representatives from the US Forest Service and the US Geological Survey, and the Colorado Energy Research Collaboratory, a research consortium among the Colorado School of Mines, CU-Boulder, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and CSU.
At 9 a.m. Moniz will deliver a speech about the ways the final Iran nuclear agreement is an improvement from the initial framework, and how it blocks the pathways for Iran to develop nuclear weapons. He will give the speech for CU’s Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment at Wolf Law Room 101.
Finally, he will attend and speak at the 16th annual Wirth Chair Sustainability Awards Luncheon at the Curtis Hotel in Denver.
