Boulder council votes to restrict short-term online vacation rentals

BOULDER — The Boulder City Council has voted to restrict short-term rentals such as reservations made online though sites like VRBO and Airbnb.

The Daily Camera reports the Council voted 7 to 1 around midnight Tuesday to move forward a staff proposal that restricts short-term rentals to people’s principal residences and requires that they live in those residences at least 275 days a year, even as they said the final version of the ordinance likely will look much different.

City Council members want to have regulations in place before asking voters to approve a tax on such rentals in November

The meeting comes a week after 20 people offering short-term rentals were sent letters ordering them to stop after someone complained. However, the city rescinded the letters to allow councilors to discuss the issue.
