How dispatchable resources enable the clean energy transition

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

Since 2008, the company has donated 1 percent of all sales revenue to skin-cancer research. Most Wallaroo hats protect wearers from 97.5 percent of the sun’s ultraviolet rays as tested by the Australian Radiation Protection Agency. More than 1 million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States every year.

The hats, head scarves and turbans all are available on the company’s website, www.wallaroohats.com, as well as at more than 3,000 boutique retail stores in the United States.

Wallaroo was started in 1999 by Stephanie Carter and Lenya Shore. Hat prices start at around $20.
