Local jobless rates improve in April
Modest strides have been made in terms of unemployment in northern Colorado over the past month.
Jobless rates for the month of April in the Fort Collins-Loveland area, as well as in Greeley, declined slightly since March.
The Fort Collins-Loveland area reported 5.4 percent unemployment for April, down from 5.6 percent in March, but up from 5 percent in April 2002. Unemployment in Greeley was down to 6.7 percent in April, from 6.9 percent in March, but up from 5.8 percent in April 2002.
In the Boulder-Longmont area, the unemployment rate remained steady at 5.7 percent from March to April, although that number was up from 5.6 percent in April 2002.
Although the jobless rate in the Boulder-Longmont area remained at 5.7 percent, the actual number of people in the labor force jumped from 174,692 people to 176,037, an increase of 1,345 people.
The number of people in the workforce in the Fort Collins-Loveland area and in Greeley increased from March to April as well.
In the Fort Collins-Loveland area, 2,683 more people entered the labor force in April, bringing the total number of people in the labor force up to 158,327 from 155,644 in March. In Greeley, 2,031 more people entered the labor force, bringing the total up to 99,559 from 97,528 in March.
Overall unemployment in Colorado also decreased in April, down to 5.9 percent from 6 percent in March, but up from 5.7 percent in April 2002.
