CSU to offer neuroscience degree

FORT COLLINS – CSU will offer an undergraduate neuroscience degree beginning in fall 2014, the first such degree offered at a public institution in Colorado, according to a release from CSU.

There are 124 undergraduate neuroscience programs offered in the country, according to CSU, and 24 of them are located at public universities.

In Colorado, neuroscience programs are offered at private schools such as Regis University and Colorado College.

“There are very few public research universities that offer undergraduate degrees in neuroscience,” Michael Tamkun, a biomedical sciences professor heading CSU’s new degree program, said in a statement.

“We think this program fills a real niche for Colroado and the region. It fits our mission of expanding educational opportunities for students,” Tamkun said.

Undergraduates in CSU’s neuroscience program can pursue one of two tracks, either behavior and cognitive neuroscience or cell and molecular neuroscience.
