Vestas announces 342-MW order on 30,000-acre wind project in New York

WINDSOR — Vestas Wind Systems A/S will supply the wind turbines for a major project in New York that covers 30,000 acres of land in three counties.

The company, with manufacturing plants in Windsor and Brighton, announced Monday its latest order to supply the Alle-Catt Wind Farm with 127 turbines that will generate 342 megawatts of power.

The project brings Vestas’ U.S. orders so far this year to 2.6 gigawatts, which is down 50% from its U.S. orders throughout 2023, although almost 4 gigawatts of work were announced in the latter part of December 2023.

The Alle-Catt Wind Project has been on the books since 2015, when Invenergy began seeking permits and inviting landowners to participate. The company announced in June that work could begin on construction of its operations and maintenance building, according to the project website.

Invenergy is developing Alle-Catt Wind on approximately 30,000 acres of private land it is leasing in the towns of Arcade, Centerville, Farmersville, Freedom and Rushford in three counties in western New York, just east of Lake Erie.

The project is expected to generate $9.1 million in annual taxes and is supported by more than 300 residents, the project website states.

The Windsor blade manufacturing plant and the Brighton nacelle manufacturing plant are the only U.S. manufacturing facilities for Vestas. The project is expected to be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2025 and commissioned by late 2026, according to a Vestas release.
