Group sues Larimer commissioners over Thornton pipeline
FORT COLLINS — An environmental group that has for six years fought a water pipeline plan by the city of Thornton has carried out its threat to sue Larimer County commissioners to try to stop it.
According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, Save the Poudre specifically named Commissioners John Kefalas, Jody Shadduck-McNally and Kristin Stephens in the lawsuit, filed in Larimer County District Court. The lawsuit involves the panel’s May 9 approval of Thornton’s plan for a 10.4-mile water pipeline across the county that would be one segment of a series of lines that would send water from the Cache la Poudre River to the Denver suburb.
Save the Poudre contends that the commission exceeded its jurisdiction and/or abused its discretion in granting the approval, and instead favors sending the water Thornton owns through the river as it flows through Fort Collins.
