Organizers pull plug on FORTitude 10K race

FORT COLLINS — The organizers of Labor Day weekend FORTitude 10K road race in Fort Collins have pulled the plug on the race after the race failed after four years to gain enough traction to continue.

Cliff Bosley, founder of the long-running BolderBoulder and also the FORTitude 10K, wrote in a letter to supporters that race organizers “have decided that we cannot continue staging the FORTitude 10K.”

He continued, “As you can imagine, there have been many changes and dynamics out of our control that have affected the event. We realize many companies and organizations have had to make tough decisions over the past three years” because of the pandemic.

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

Bosley said the organization behind the races will continue holding the ColderBOLDER 5k on Dec.10, and the BolderBoulder, which was held on the Memorial Day weekend this year as normal, will be back on the same weekend of 2023.

Whether Bosley and his organization will re-enter the Fort Collins market with a race is uncertain. Bosley did not respond to a request for additional information.
