Temporary Sheltair FBO opens at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport

BROOMFIELD — Sheltair Aviation Services LLC has opened a new temporary fixed-base operation at Broomfield’s Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport while the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company awaits construction of a permanent FBO.

Sheltair entered into a lease agreement with Jefferson County in 2018 to build and operate a full-service FBO at the airport. This represents the company’s first project west of the Mississippi River.

“Our newest corporate address in Colorado reflects the natural progression of a company that carefully studies the market, identifies communities that embrace general aviation, and considers the role of airports in supporting regional economies and the vision of local officials,” Sheltair CEO Jerry Holland said in a prepared statement.

The temporary FBO features a passenger lobby, reception, and ground handling and fueling support equipment.

Plans for the permanent facility call for a 10,000-square-foot FBO, a new 35,000-square-foot hangar and a new fuel farm on 10 acres. Construction is expected to begin later this year.

Last month, the company announced that it had hired Craig Foster, former president of Jet Source Inc., as the general manager of the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport operation.

“Sheltair is highly regarded in the East ,and I’m honored and excited to be a part of extending Sheltair’s reputation for service into the western United States,” Foster said in a prepared statement. “The Denver area is growing rapidly and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport is a great location for us to launch our commitment to this market.”
