Pearl Street Cheesecake Factory to close

BOULDER — The Cheesecake Factory Inc. (Nasdaq: CAKE) on Pearl Street Mall in Boulder is closing, laying off 96 employees.

The restaurant, which has been operating in Boulder for 19 years, will shutter its doors on Jan. 11, the company said in a letter to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. Layoffs are expected to occur on Dec. 29. Cheesecake Factory, whose address is 1401 Pearl Street Suite 100, filed a WARN notice with the state to report the layoffs.

The positions affected will be seven managers, 28 servers and runners, 13 bussers, one store accountant, three bartenders, 11 front desk employees, 17 line cooks, five prep cooks, one steward, four dishwashers, four bakers and two cashiers.

Earlier this summer, documents were filed with the city of Boulder showing plans to remove the ornamental branded features, as well as other changes, to the Cheesecake Factory location. In July, Deidre Weight, a third-party representative for Cheesecake Factory contacted at the time of those plans, emailed BizWest saying “they are in fact not moving out of that location.”
