Colorado marijuana sales top $1.3 billion in 2016

Marijuana sales reached $1.3 billion in Colorado during 2016, topping the billion-dollar mark for the first time.

The Denver Post reported the numbers based on just-released data from the Colorado Department of Revenue. The $1.3 billion mark compares with $996.2 million in 2015, the second year of recreational-pot sales, and $699.2 million in 2014.

Colorado recorded $199 million in tax and fee revenue from marijuana sales in 2016, the Post reports.
