New home sales in west region hit 6-year high in April

New single-family home sales in the western region of the U.S. hit a six-year high in April, with 13,000 new homes sold during the month.

This marks the highest number of new home sales in a given month since September 2007. April’s total was the highest of any April since April 2008, according to the Colorado Division of Housing.

The number of new homes on the market also increased in April when compared to the same month in the previous year. In April 2012, 30,000 new homes were for sale, 26 percent lower than in April 2013, during which 38,000 new homes were for sale.

Nationwide, new home sales increased by 29 percent year-over-year in April, from 352,000 in April 2012 to 454,000 in April 2013.

In Northern Colorado, new home construction has increased steadily in recent months, especially in smaller communities such as Eaton, Windsor and Wellington.
