USDA to close three Colorado offices

More than 250 U.S. Department of Agriculture domestic offices, facilities and labs will be closing nationwide, including three in Colorado.

The closures are a response to a $3 billion cut in the USDA’s operating budget over the past two years, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack explained during a news conference earlier this week. He also reduced the USDA’s travel, conference and supply budget by $90 million, and offered early retirement to many employees.

Colorado offices will close in Longmont, Monte Vista and Walsenburg.
