2011 Urban Design Award winners announced

FORT COLLINS – The city of Fort Collins will award its 2011 Urban Design Awards on Oct. 13 when 11 projects will be recognized.

The ceremony, to be held from 4:30-6 p.m. at Midtown Arts Center, 3750 S. Mason St., will recognize:

  • Urban Design Plan category – Mitchell Block (262 E. Mountain Ave.), BHA Design; Poudre Fire Authority Station No. 4 (1945 Drake Road), Belford Watkins Group;
  • Architecture category – Full Cycle (2101 S. College Ave.), Vaught Frye Larson Architects; North Flats (Old Town North), Greg D. Fisher, Architect; Otterbox HQ (209 S. Meldrum St.), The Architects’ Studio;
  • Urban Fragment category – Equinox Brewing Beer Garden and Patio (133 Remington St.), Russell + Mills Studio; “Curtain” Illuminated Sculpture (Lincoln Center, 417 W. Magnolia St.), Barbara Baer; “Knowledge Shared” Sculptural Environment (Council Tree Library), Barbara Baer;
  • Civic Improvement Project category – Downtown Alley Enhancement Project, Aller Lingle Massey Architects, Russell + Mills Studios;
  • Green Design category – Brendle Group Offices (212 W. Mulberry St.), Greg D. Fisher, Architect; Odell Brewing Co. expansion (800 Lincoln Ave.), RB+B Architects Inc.;
  • Hall of Fame category-Gene Mitchell for his body of work, including Old Town Square.

The biennial awards were created in 2006 to promote awareness of quality projects and celebrate good design.
