Rupert, Lee will be honored by BPW at May 3 luncheon

BOULDER — Dorothy Rupert, a former state senator, and Iris Lee, owner of Dreamcatcher Direct Instruction Centers, will be honored at a luncheon on Thursday, May 3, presented by the Boulder chapter of Business and Professional Women (BPW).

Rupert won the chapter’s Woman of the Year award, and Lee’s Dreamcatcher was selected as the Woman-Owned Business of the Year.

The women will be honored at the Celebration of Women Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Spice of Life Event Center, 5706 Arapahoe Ave. in Boulder.

The event will feature keynote speeches from both recipients, and the funds raised at the event will support the Colorado BPW Foundation, Colorado Enhancement Corp. and other BPW programs for the advancement of women.

“Both these women were awarded based on their outstanding contributions to further women and the rights of women in their respected professions. We choose award recipients based on the impact they have made on the community and how well their work promotes the ideals and mission of BPW,´ said Doreen O’Donovan, president of Boulder BPW.

During her 14-year political career as a Colorado representative and senator, Rupert fought for civil and women’s rights including the outlawing of genital mutilation of young girls in Colorado.

Lee’s Dreamcatcher centers reach out to economically challenged children and adults to teach basic academic skills. Primarily staffed by women employees, Dreamcatcher furthers the mission of BPW to support the self-sufficiency of economically challenged women by providing educational opportunity and advancement.

Event sponsorship is provided by The Boulder County Business Report, The Northern Colorado Business Report, Colorado Woman News, Woman’s Magazine and Zenith Woman. The fashion show will feature women and men’s fashions from leading Boulder area retail stores and will be modeled by area business leaders.

Sponsorship tables, exhibit space and individual tickets are available. Sponsorship tables range in price from $480-$4,400. Exhibit tables are available for $150 and $250. Individual tickets to the event are $30 open seating for BPW members, $40 for standard open seating and $60 for reserved patron seating. The fund-raiser will support the Colorado Enhancement Corp. and the Colorado BPW Foundation, both are 501c3 organizations developed for the advancement of women. The Colorado BPW Foundation provides scholarships for Colorado women to help them attain economic self-sufficiency through education. The Colorado Enhancement Corp., run by BPW, provides training that assists individuals in obtaining enhanced employment opportunities.
