Only this time, it isn’t the local personal injury lawyer urging you to call to get the money you deserve.

Instead, the 950-lawyer technology firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, which has a branch in Interlocken, will launch its commercial on CNN. Four 30-second spots will air during such programs as CNN Headline News and Moneyline.

Anark of Boulder was one of only 39 companies out of 450 selected to present its business plan at the Golden State Capital Network conference Jan. 29 and 30 in Sacramento, Calif. Selected start-ups will receive a workshop and grooming session in addition to the opportunity to present. May the best plan win. eConvergent, a business solutions provider for electronic customer relationship management, announced the winners of its second annual e-tailer customer satisfaction contest. Winners of the best online sites are SharperImage.com, Art.com and Chicco.com. Those sites elected worst are BestBuy.com, Webvan.com and HarryandDavid.com.

Michelle Sun, who nominated Chicco.com for best online sites, said, “I purchased a Chicco ball pounder for my son, which has four balls; red, blue, green and yellow. My son lost the red ball, so I e-mailed Chicco, but I accidentally contacted Chicco Co. in Italy. They responded immediately (in broken English) about needing my address. Not only did they send the red ball all the way from Italy, they sent me a complete set of balls, free of charge. They have great products and very impressive customer service.”

Cindy Barclay, who nominated Webvan.com for worst online sites, said, “After much encouragement from friends, I decided to order all my holiday dinner fixings through Webvan. My delivery was three hours late and the driver was in a hurry, so I only quickly scanned my delivery. After the driver left, I discovered that Webvan had made substitutions. I had cilantro instead of parsley and a pineapple instead of garlic. Plus, my “fresh” free-range turkey was frozen solid. I contacted Webvan and was told they would deliver a fresh turkey, but the second was as frozen as the first! Unfortunately, it wasn’t until Thanksgiving day that I found the whipping cream from Webvan and an expiration date of Dec. 3, 1945! (I still have the carton to prove it.)”In the category of “Questionable New Products,” the Eye spots the Popcorn Fork, recommended by its inventor Don Sothman as a solution to “a very slippery problem.” Yes, as you might have guessed, it even includes a built-in salt shaker. A 12-pack goes for only $9.95. The Eye thinks inventors in Wisconsin have a bit too much time on their hands through the cold winters. The Popcorn Fork’s PR says, “After all, we don’t eat mashed potatoes and gravy with our hands anymore.” Check it out for yourself at www.popcornfork.com or call (888) 931-2207 for information.
