Senate confirms Colorado oil, gas CEO as energy secretary

DENVER — A Colorado-based national oil and gas executive became the county’s next energy secretary on Monday after a 59-38 vote in the U.S. Senate, according to Reuters news service.

Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy (LBRT.N) since 2011, reported he will step down from the oil and gas company once he is confirmed.  In writings last year, Reuters reported, Wright said he believes human-caused climate change is real, but that its hazards are “distant and uncertain.” He has also has said “that top-down governmental policies to curb it are destined to fail,” Reuters reported.

In his nomination hearings, Wright said his first priority is to “to expand domestic energy production including liquefied natural gas and nuclear energy.The Denver Post took a closer look at the Colorado based oil and gas leader here.
