Exhibit will draw attention to violence in community
LOVELAND — Loveland nonprofit Alternatives to Violence and Artworks Center for Contemporary Art will host a new exhibition to draw attention to topics that are difficult to talk about.
Domestic Violence: An Artist’s Perspective will run July 7 and July 8 at Artworks.
“The exhibition shares the story of resilience and perseverance that many domestic violence victims go through and are going through right here in our community,” Rose Marie Massaro, communication and development manager for Alternatives to Violence, said in a written statement. “We are so grateful to Artworks for providing the space to share these stories and help raise awareness for this abuse that needs to be talked about.”

The exhibition will showcase art in different mediums from local artists that convey their interpretation or message about domestic violence. Personal stories from survivors also will be featured.
The event serves as a fundraiser for Alternatives to Violence. Some pieces will be available for purchase, with a percentage of the sale price to be donated to Alternatives to Violence.
“We feel privileged to provide a space for people to have these important conversations and most importantly help other survivors feel less alone,” said Sarah LaBarre, executive director and curator for Artworks Center for Contemporary Art. “It also helps to raise awareness that agencies like Alternatives to Violence are here, ready to help those in need in our community.”
The exhibit will be on display 1-4 p.m. July 7 and noon to 4 p.m. July 8. Artworks is located at 310 N. Railroad Ave. in Loveland. Entrance to the exhibition is free. A cocktail reception will be held July 7 from 5-7 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to donate $10 at the door for the cocktail reception.
