Boulder chamber focuses on equity, pandemic response in annual awards

BOULDER — The Boulder Chamber of Commerce dedicated its 2021 Celebration of Leadership event Tuesday night to recognizing community efforts on three fronts: pandemic response, economic vitality and movement toward a more equitable Boulder.

Those recognized included:

Rising Star Award — Katrina Miller, owner of Blackat Video Productions LLC. Miller used the pandemic quarantine period to produce films addressing issues of racial disparity. One of them, The Silence of Quarantine, can be found here.

The Virginia Patterson Business of the Year — Restaurateurs Jill and Eric Skokan, operators of Black Cat farm to table restaurant and Bramble & Hare, were recognized for achievements in an industry severely impacted by the pandemic.

Startup of the Year — Aaron Clark, founder of Equity Solutions LLC, was recognized for creating a firm that works to empower individuals toward creating a more equitable society.

Special Impact Awards — The public health response network (Avista Adventist Hospital, Boulder Community Health, Boulder Community Health Foundation, Boulder County Public Health, Longmont United Hospital, SCL Health and UCHealth) was recognized for response to the health crisis caused by COVID-19. Also recognized was the Boulder Business Response & Recovery Alliance (Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau, Boulder County, Boulder Small Business Development Center, Community Foundation of Boulder County, city of Boulder, Downtown Boulder Partnership and the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Boulder County) for working collaboratively to assist businesses shut down or curtailed because of the pandemic.
