90-year business closes in Durango

DURANGO — A 90-year business institution in town has closed effective at the end of October.

Landis Boot & Shoe Repair had operated since 1928, according to the Durango Herald. The owner, Amy Thomas, 84, will retire.

Boot and shoe repair business have become few and far between as consumers choose to dispose of shoes instead of fixing them. In the case of Durango, one of the employees of the shuttered shop may continue on but does not have specific plans.
