Bank profits set records

Veribanc says that few banks are under capital or earnings pressure, with annualized growth rates in the double digits and new bank charters on the increase.
Overall lending increased nationwide during the second quarter to $3 trillion, up an annualized rate of 12.53 percent from the previous quarter. Business loans totaled $761 billion, up 12.63 percent.
Deposits at the nation˜s banks reached $3.47 trillion, an annualized 10.26 percent increase from the first quarter of 1997.
