FORT COLLINS – Colorado State University is among the nation’s best universities and in the top 20 that make writing a critical priority of student success, according to the 2012 U.S. News and World Report Annual Best Colleges edition released Sept. 13.
CSU ranked No. 63 among public universities on the list of top-tier public and private doctoral universities and 128th overall among public and private institutions.
“We’re proud that CSU provides students with an outstanding, competitive education and our faculty is among the most productive in the country when it comes to research that impacts the quality of life in Colorado and around the world,´ said Tony Frank, CSU president.
In August, CSU announced its annual research spending had grown nearly 10 percent to $330.8 million in fiscal year 2011 that ended June 30. It was a record high for the university and the fourth consecutive year that research expenditures topped $300 million.
Other Colorado universities named to the top tier in U.S. News and World Report rankings were the Colorado School of Mines, CU-Boulder, University of Denver and UC-Denver.
Topping the list of best national universities were Harvard and Princeton universities (tied for No. 1); Yale University, No. 3; Columbia University, No. 4; and California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Chicago and University of Pennsylvania, all tied at No. 5.
