Lacking a buyer, Rule105 Brewing to close Jan. 31

GREELEY — Rule105 Brewing, which has sought a buyer for more than a year, instead will close at the end of January, with its assets to be liquidated.

Owners Mike and Kristie Mosher in December 2024 announced plans to sell the brewery, located at 4731 W. 10th St., with the intent to retire to their home state of Nebraska. But in a post on the brewery’s Facebook page Wednesday, the pair announced that the brewery instead would close for good Jan. 31.

“Rule105 Brewing has been for sale for over 12 months,” the post stated. “There have been nearly two dozen interested parties, and we felt that several would have been fantastic new owners. Sadly, we have failed to sell the brewery.

“Therefore, we have reached a point where it is in our best interest to cease operation and liquidate our business in order to realize our dreams of retirement and our desire to be full-time grandparents. We have already missed the first 12 years of our grandsons’ lives and don’t want to miss any more.

“This has been an amazing and agonizing choice to make because we are so proud of what we created through Rule105. We have been so blessed over the past 5 years with many new friends and so many great experiences. The memories of this chapter of our lives will forever warm our hearts.”

Commenters on the Facebook post lamented the closure.

“This isn’t good news,” one commenter said. “We love this place! But family is important! We’ve been going there since it was Broken Plow.”

“Thank you so much for the time you were here,” another commenter said. “We will miss you but know this is what you need to do. Take care, dear friends.”

Another remarked, “Well dang! I don’t get to Greeley often, but when I do I always go to Rule 105. That said, I totally support your reasoning and wish you the best.”

The Moshers purchased the former Broken Plow Brewery in 2021 and renamed it Rule105, which Kristie Mosher said was a term from the Urban Dictionary meaning “beer is the answer.”

The brewery is the latest in a string of Colorado craft breweries to close in recent years, including Sanitas Brewing Co., which closed its Boulder brewery and taprooms in Lafayette and Englewood Dec. 20, and Loveland’s Big Beaver Brewing Co., which closed in November.
