Colorado bankruptcy filings climb 26% in 2024
DENVER — Colorado bankruptcy filings increased a slight 2% in December but finished the year up 26% compared with 2023.
The state recorded 7,682 bankruptcy filings in 2024, compared with 6,081 the prior year. Individual filings totaled 7,536, up 26% from 5,961 in 2023. Business filings totaled 146, compared with 128 the prior year.
That’s according to a BizWest analysis of U.S. Bankruptcy Court data. Numbers cited include all new filings, including open, closed and dismissed cases.

Colorado recorded 538 bankruptcy filings in December, compared with 527 for the same period in 2023. The state recorded 617 bankruptcy filings in November.
Individual bankruptcy filings totaled 531 in December 2024, with seven business filings, compared with 516 individual and 11 business filings in December 2023.
December filings decreased in Boulder and Broomfield counties, while increasing in Larimer and Weld counties.
- Boulder County recorded 15 bankruptcy filings in December, down 32% from 22 a year ago. Boulder County recorded 26 bankruptcy filings in November 2024. Filings in 2024 totaled 266, up 6% from 251 in 2023.
- The City and County of Broomfield recorded seven bankruptcy filings in December, down from eight the prior year. Broomfield recorded eight bankruptcy filings in November 2024. Full-year filings totaled 99 in 2024, up 65% from 60 the prior year.
- Larimer County filings totaled 26 in December, up 4% from 25 the prior year. Larimer recorded 38 bankruptcy filings in November 2024. Full-year filings totaled 439, up 18% from 371 the prior year.
- Weld County bankruptcy filings totaled 50 in December, up 6% from 47 a year ago. Weld recorded 43 bankruptcy filings in November 2024. Full-year filings totaled 627, up 21% from 518 in 2023.
December filings included:
- Asevedo Group LLC of Lafayette, doing business as Reelfish Fish and Chips, which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Dec. 13, listing assets of $100,001 to $500,000, and liabilities of $500,001 to $1 million.
- Steel Fabricators Inc. of Fort Collins, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization Dec. 23. The company has not yet filed a summary of assets and liabilities. Case No. 24-17584-JGR, U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Denver.
