2024 Women of Distinction – Ann Clarke

2024 Women of Distinction Honoree – Outstanding Mentor

Ann Clarke

What’s your proudest moment either personally or professionally?

COWOI’s ten years of Women of Vision Galas, where we shined a spotlight on 110 outstanding NoCo female leaders! We were astounded at the amazing women in our own back yard that no one outside of their field had ever heard of. All of the nominees and those eventually selected had this in common: they were told, “Nobody can do anything about that!” But they all said, “I will do something about that!” They were determined – fearless – unstoppable – and empowered. They were of all ages, from teenagers to octogenarians. They were elite athletes, political activists, educators, inventors, writers, innovators and creators. Their missions impacted not only people but animals as well. They made a difference not only locally but in many instances, across the country and even across the world.

How do you like to unwind?

On my “Stiletto Red” Harley trike! Any back road will do, whether it’s the plains of Wyoming or the mountains of Colorado. The more winding the road, the better!

Who is your mentor or role model?

So many! I met LeAnn Thieman when our kids were in 4-H together. She showed me how a quiet woman can become a hero when thrust into a battle zone. I became friends with Debra Benton, when I told her that her 1992 book, Lions Don’t Need To Roar changed my life. Julie Piepho and her red suit! She showed me how to shatter glass ceilings with elegance & grace. And Dixie Daly, who taught me how to talk to anyone/everyone and hear their story! Finally, the late Dr. Joan King whose feisty personality inspired me to think bigger and take on more!

What’s ahead for you personally or professionally?

I have lots of candles on my birthday cake so my bucket list has most items checked off! “Been there, done that” is kinda frustrating but also very satisfying. I plan to continue living my life as a dashing & bold adventure! But I also still burn with the fires to help women find the resources they need to create a great life. I do just that through COWOI, but how cool that we also become “girlfriends at a whole higher level” and I really love that!
