Boulder to break ground on golf-course restaurant
BOULDER — The city of Boulder on June 14 will break ground on a new restaurant and outdoor-event lawn at Flatirons Golf Course that is expected to be open by summer 2024.
The public ceremony will be held at 9 a.m., and community members are invited, although parking may be limited because of parking-lot construction, according to a news release submitted by the city.
The facility at the golf course, 5706 Arapahoe Ave., was designed by Boulder-based Z Design Group and will be built by general contractor White Construction Group, based in Englewood. It will include a family-friendly restaurant and bar to serve golf patrons and the community, and will boast scenic views from its indoor/outdoor dining area. A lawn will be developed for outdoor activities and events, and indoor restrooms will replace the temporary restrooms that have been adjacent to the Pro Shop.

The construction project will also include replacing the parking lot and include a drop-off area, vegetation islands, a rain garden, electric-vehicle charging stations, lighting and bike parking spaces.
The Flatirons Golf Course facility will replace core infrastructure that was destroyed in the September 2013 flood. Deconstruction of the existing Just Hit It snack shack has begun, with construction of the new building anticipated to take about a year. Renovation of the Pro Shop is also planned and is scheduled to be completed toward the end of the project.
The facility will be built in the footprint of the previous facility and surrounding areas. According to the city news release, “the project team has worked hard to design the facility to be as efficient and cost effective as possible with durable, low-maintenance materials. Approximately 85% of materials from the deconstruction of the snack shack and related site will be reused or recycled.”
Concept plans for the facility were approved by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in October 2020, and funding was approved in the city’s Capital Improvement Program. The construction is funded mostly from Permanent Parks and Recreation Funds, which are dedicated to the acquisition or permanent improvement of parkland.
Land-use changes adopted by the Boulder City Council now allow restaurants — such as Driftwinds at Boulder Reservoir — to be operated on regional park grounds.
