Business-led issue group forms to defeat Hughes open land initiative
FORT COLLINS — A business interest group called Stand with CSU has formed to counter residents who seek to turn the Hughes Stadium property into open space.
The Coloradoan reported that the group will try to persuade voters in the upcoming municipal election to vote against the ballot measure that would direct the city to purchase the land from Colorado State University. CSU has signaled intent to sell the property for development using a portion of state law that would allow it to circumvent the usual development authority that the city carries. A portion of the land under the CSU plan would be reserved for open space and the remainder developed, with a transit center, child care facility and medical clinic included in the plan.
