High Plains Bank closes on parcel for new Longmont location
LONGMONT — Flagler-based High Plains Bank closed Monday on the purchase of a parcel in northwest Longmont, on which it will build its second location in that city.
The bank, which had won approval in October from the Colorado Banking Board to add branches in Longmont and Keenesburg, bought the 23,416-square-foot vacant land at 2306 17th Ave., from LRAN Properties LLC for $325,000.
The tract sits just east of The Plaza at 17th and Hover, a strip mall also owned by LRAN, where the bank will lease a space for a temporary location that will open in the second or third quarter of this year “as we complete the planning process with the city” for the permanent site, said John Creighton, High Plains Bank’s president. The plaza’s tenants include Mama Roni’s Pizza and locations of Starbucks Coffee and Jimmy John’s sandwich shop. The 1,360-square-foot space the bank will lease, at 2318 17th Ave. Suite D, had housed a children’s tutoring and education center.

Creighton said the specific design of the new bank will be determined after dealings with the city and will include some community meetings because a variance will be needed to add the bank’s drive-through facility. He estimated construction would begin in 2022.
High Plains Bank’s other Longmont location is at 600 Kimbark St.
According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., as of last October High Plains Bank had nearly $252 million in assets and almost $211 million in deposits. Besides its flagship location in Flagler, it has branches in Bennett and Wiggins.
LRAN LLC, owned by developers David Chaknova and Dan Raney, was represented by Mike Beacom of Structure Group in the sale. High Plains Bank was represented by Jessica Cashmore of The Colorado Group.
