RES America transfers East Coast wind development lease to Danish firm

BROOMFIELD — RES America Developments Inc., a subsidiary of Broomfield-based Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc., said Tuesday it has reached an agreement to transfer a U.S. offshore wind-development lease off the coast of New Jersey to Denmark-based DONG Energy.

Financial terms of the transfer were not disclosed.

In November, RES America agreed to pay almost $881,000 for the lease area, with about 160,480 acres that starts eight miles offshore and extends 24 miles seaward with water depths of about 80 feet, according to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

Earlier in 2015, Res America won a bid of $281,285 to lease 187,000 acres on which to develop a wind farm about 56 miles off the coast of Massachusetts with water depths between 131 and 164 feet. Three months later, it transferred the lease to DONG Energy.
