Boulder-based Sphero raises $11M as part of new equity round that could grow
BOULDER – Robotic toymaker Orbotix Inc., which does business as Sphero, appears to be girding for more rapid growth.
Boulder-based Sphero made a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission recently reporting that the company has raised $11 million in new funding. But the filing also noted that the company could be seeking up to $52 million.
Sphero officials said this week that they couldn’t comment while a funding round is ongoing.
Founded in 2010, the company has raised about $33.6 million in venture capital, with its backers including Boulder-based Foundry Group. That amount includes a Series D round last year that wound up being more than $16 million.
