Partners OK combining of law firms

BOULDER – The Boulder office of Faegre & Benson LLP is actively recruiting lawyers following approval of partners for the combining of Minneapolis-based Faegre & Benson and Indianapolis-based Baker & Daniels LLP.

Announced in August, the deal was approved Wednesday by partners of both law firms and will go into effect Jan. 1, along with a name change to Faegre Baker Daniels LLP. Also, the consulting arm of Baker & Daniels, B&D Consulting, will change its name to FaegreBD Consulting.

A combination brings two or more businesses into a single accounting entity that then carries on the activities of the separate businesses. Officials of both firms pointed out this was not an acquisition.

Financial terms of the combination were not disclosed.

The office in Boulder, headed by Rex O’Neal, has 15 lawyers, but O’Neal is actively recruiting for more, said Wayne Harris, regional business development and marketing manager.

“There will be synergies across both practices,” Harris said, but none of the offices will be combined.

Together, the firms will have 770 lawyers, 450 from Faegre & Benson and 320 from Baker & Daniels, Harris said.

The new firm will maintain 13 offices: Boulder, Denver,  two in Indianapolis, Indiana; Fort Wayne and South Bend, Indiana; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Washington, D.C.; Des Moines, Iowa; Beijing, Shanghai and London.
