Level 3 providing broadband in Georgia

BROOMFIELD – Level 3 Communications Inc. will work with Habersham Electric Membership Corp. on a project to improve broadband connectivity and networks services in the communities and rural areas of northern Georgia.

EMC is a sub-recipient of federal funding through the nonprofit North Georgia Network Cooperative. The nonprofit received funds through the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009.

Broomfield-based Level 3 (Nasdaq: LVLT) will provide rural Georgia markets with direct access to Level 3’s advanced network services and international reach. It will be used to allow Habersham EMC to deploy and IP-based energy-management solution that enables a utility and its customers to monitor and control energy consumption and costs on a real-time basis from a personal computer or smartphone.
