Kmart to close store in Longmont in May

LONGMONT – Kmart plans to close its store in Longmont at 2151 Main St. this May.

The national retailer, which is owned by Sears Holding Corp., (Nasdaq: SHLD) said the closure would be part of 1,300 Kmart stores closing nationwide. Longmont’s location was the sole Kmart closing in Colorado. The company has nearby stores in Broomfield and Loveland.

About 59 full- and part-time workers will be affected by the closing, and officials said the company would look to move as many employees to other local Kmart and Sears stores.

A liquidation sale at the Longmont Kmart is scheduled to begin Feb. 21.
