Dillard’s Greeley Mall stores closing

GREELEY — Two Dillard’s clothing stores located in the Greeley Mall will close by May 14, according to Randy Berman, mall general manager.

“This was a corporate decision made by the Little Rock, Ark.-based retailer to shift its resources to other stores. The Greeley Mall store is an example of this strategy,” Berman said in a written statement. Berman did not return a phone call for further comment.

Julie Bull, a spokeswoman for Dillard’s in Little Rock, said the stores — which Dillard’s considers to be one store occupying two spaces within the mall — had been “underperforming” for the last couple of years.

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

“We periodically close underperforming stores all the time,” she said. “It is not unusual.”

Bull said the closings will affect around 100 employees who will be offered the opportunity to transfer to other Dillard’s stores. The closest stores to Greeley are in Cheyenne and Longmont, but Bull said Dillard’s operates eight other Colorado stores in Denver, Louisville, Pueblo and Colorado Springs. No other Colorado stores are in line for closing, she said.

February sales results for Dillard’s 330 stores in 29 states showed sales companywide were down by 2 percent from the same month one year ago.

The Dillard’s stores have anchored the Greeley Mall for 10 years along with JC Penney and Sears, according to a story in the March 13 Greeley Tribune.
