Boulder sports publisher bought

BOULDER – A New York-based private equity group has signed an agreement to purchase the Boulder-based publisher of VeloNews and Inside Triathlon magazines.

Falconhead Capital LLC will buy Inside Communications Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

Upon completion of the transaction, Inside’s publications, events and operations will become part of Falconhead’s portfolio company Competitor Group Inc.

The group will have total monthly circulation of more than 500,000, and their Web sites will have more than 1.1 million unique visitors per month, the company said a press release.

Inside Communications will remain in Boulder, where it publishes VeloNews and Inside Triathlon, magazines covering competitive cycling and endurance sport industries.  The company also produced event-specific glossy magazines (such as the Tour de France Guide), manages online publishing services, publishes books in its VeloPress division, and organizes events.

Felix Magowan, who co-founded Inside Communications with John Wilcockson in 1987, will partner with David Moross and Peter Englehart at Falconhead to run the group.

Falconhead Capital was founded in 1998 and has about $500 million in assets under management.
