YWCA of Boulder County fund-raiser to honor five locals

BOULDER — YWCA of Boulder County will present its 12th Annual Hall of Fame Awards Dinner Dance and Silent Auction from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Glenn Miller Ballroom in the University Memorial Center on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder.

The event will honor five local hall of fame winners who have helped to improve the lives of women

and children. Proceeds will support the many programs offered by the YWCA. Limited tickets are now available at (303) 443-0419.

Award winners for the hall of fame were selected from categories reflecting this year’s theme: “Celebrating the Silver Screen.” The categories and winners are:

Woman of the Year — “Best Actress”: Kaye Howe, deputy director of the National Science Digital Library and former educator with 40 years in community service, has devoted herself to students and their education.

Man of the Year — “Best Actor”: Stephen Tebo is one of the largest-property owners in Boulder County and a tireless contributor to dozens of nonprofit organizations.

Champion of Diversity — “Best Producer”: Nino E. Gallo, assistant director of Boulder County Community Action Programs, takes an active role in helping the Latino and other ethnic communities to succeed in improving their educations and economic status.

Spirit of the Community — “Best Director”: Terre Rushton, an attorney in Boulder who demonstrates her spirited nature of giving through the legal field and in the nonprofit sector.

Organization of the Year — “Best Picture”: Boulder Community Hospital partners with other community organizations to meet the diverse health-care needs of local residents.

Title sponsor for the 2004 Hall of Fame is Wells Fargo.

Starring sponsors include JJ Wells, First National Bank of Colorado, Vectra Bank, Cascade Financial Group, Colorado Business Bank of Boulder, Jesse and Janna Greenfield, Stratecom and Walters & Hogsett Fine Jewelers.

The YWCA helps more than 5,000 clients annually,´ said Janet Beardsley, executive director of the YWCA. “The YWCA’s Hall of Fame allows us to recognize individuals and organizations that are reflective of our mission to protect children, empower women and girls and eliminate racism.”

Disc jockey Pat Downing and the Blake Eberhard Jazz trio will provide entertainment for the YWCA Hall of Fame.

A Red Carpet Reception will greet award honorees and VIPs as they arrive throughout the evening. Ginny Corsi, president of Corsi Associates, will be the master of ceremonies.
