By Business Report Staff

DENVER ? A former Denver Post editor and reporter has launched a copy editor-for-hire service online.

Joan White, former assistant managing editor and features editor at the Post, launched thecopydesk.net as a sort of “electronic version of a traditional newspaper copydesk,” according to a press release. The service provides editing for companies looking for professionally written and edited materials. Veteran newspaper editors edit the documents.

As Mental Health Awareness Month unfolds in Colorado, it serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to prioritize mental well-being.

“I launched thecopydesk.net because I’ve seen the need many corporations have for professional help with their written materials,” White said. I believe thecopydesk.net and its editors will provide the editing excellence that only newspaper-trained copy editors can offer.”

White believes thecopydesk.net should have “great appeal” to companies that want to ensure their communications are professionally written and edited. “With businesses doing so much communicating using new technologies that exclude face-to-face encounters, judgments are being made based n what companies have written to customers and employees,” White said. “Written errors and poor grammar can hurt a company’s credibility.”

The site works by receiving materials to be edited and moving them to a professional editor. The professional editor edits the materials and returns them to the client with correction marks remaining. The client can then decide whether to accept the corrections or to further correct the copy. Thecopydesk.net handles letters, brochures, newsletters, annual reports, business plans and employee communications.

The site, part of a nearly 7-year-old editorial services and consulting company, handles documents from letters to annual reports. The site also offers writing guidelines and recommendations for publications that help improve writing, as well as monthly writing tips. According to the site, editing rates are usually $70 per hour.

The parent company, Executive Editors, was founded by White in 1994 after her 20 years at the Post. Executive Editors also offers writing training, writing, graphic design and consulting.
