Ska Street Brewstillery in “hibernation,” closed indefinitely

BOULDER — Ska Street Brewstillery, a brewery, taphouse and restaurant concept in Boulder from Durango’s Ska Brewing Co. and Palisade-based Peach Street Distillers, is closed indefinitely after only two years in business.

“Ska Street Brewstillery is going into hibernation and we will be closed until further notice.

There’s no way around the fact that our community has been through challenging times,” the establishment posted on Facebook this week. “We’ll have more information to follow, but for now, we thank our staff, family, friends, and patrons for the last 2 years. Supporting all small businesses keeps a community strong together!”

The establishment launched in early 2020 at 1600 38th St., the former home of Fate Brewing Co.

The 38th Street location has been snakebit in recent years.

Fate filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late 2018 and closed its Boulder location in May 2019 after an unsuccessful reorganization effort.

The owners of Ska secured much of their equipment for the Boulder operation during Fate’s bankruptcy auction.

Ska Street had a 30-tap taproom and 10-barrel brewing system that the company hoped would churn out 500 to 1,000 barrels a year.

The establishment specialized in bar food with a Caribbean flair.

Ska Street had just opened for business when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and all Colorado bars and restaurants were temporarily shuttered.

The establishment reopened about two months later for limited service, but it’s indefinite closure in 2022 appears to indicate that Ska Street never managed to gain a foothold in the Boulder market.
